Highlights

The branch of the world-famous Louvre Museum is definitely worth a visit. It houses paintings, sculptures and a wide range of historical artefacts from antiquity to the present day.

One of the largest mosques in the world can also be found in Abu Dhabi. In the Sheikh Zayed Mosque with its 80 domes, 1,000 columns and golden ceiling chandeliers, you can immerse yourself in the faith and values of the emirate and explore them with free audio guides.

Another impressive building is the magnificent Qasr Al Watan presidential palace. The centrepiece of the palace is the huge "Great Hall" decorated with mosaics and a 37-metre-wide dome.

Just outside the city gates, the oasis city of Al Ain and the Rub al Khali desert invite you to go exploring.

Those seeking peace and quiet can spend a day on the beach at Saadiyat. The island, which is only a few minutes away by car, has a 9-kilometre-long sandy beach where you can unwind in perfect temperatures.
